Hot off the heels of the official Chapter 10 trailer, Boomtown have just released the full headliners announcement for their 10th Chapter celebrations! Held over the 9th – 12th August at the Matterley Estate, Hampshire, the live acts topping the bill as well as the sheer scope of musical genres on offer, perfectly sum up the evolution of the 60,000 capacity, multifaceted music and theatrical event over the past decade.

Joining the Gorillaz 2018 UK exclusive headlining slot are South African trio Die Antwoord, ‘Rollin’ rap-rockers Limp Bizkit, three time Grammy winner Ben Harper & The Innocent Criminals, returning Godfather of reggae Jimmy Cliff, soulful vocals and African polyrhythms from Amadou & Mariam, downtempo trip hop from Morcheeba, and anti-austerity punk music from Sleaford Mods, seamlessly mirroring the festivals own immersive storyline and political undertones; plus over 200 more acts across the 27 ‘main’ stages, nine theatrical districts and forest parties on this initial release.

“Those in attendance can expect to be taken on a journey of live and electronic music around the UK underground, via global stars and grassroots talent from over 50 countries across the world. Those of any age, young and a little less young,  first timers or Boomtown stalwarts, there is something for everyone.’

Boomtown Organisers

As one of the UK’s largest truly independent festivals bringing together multiple characters, voices, sounds and ideas, Boomtown has overcome the odds throughout the past decade to become the fastest growing festival in the country, selling out every year and expanding from 1,000 in 2009 to 60,000 from 2015.

On top of the eclectic music line up, Boomtown puts equal importance on stage design and theatrical storylines, with the ‘city’ split into nine unique districts. The experience within these different zones take ‘citizens’ on a journey into the future, back to the past and across a spectrum of alternative realities through film set-esque environments including; the dystopian nuclear power station of Sector 6, the bohemian circus of Oldtown and technological advancements of the Metropolis quarter.  The myriad of potential adventures are never ending within this surreal, escapist fantasy land for all ages.

This headliners release covers a mere selection of the acts that can be found on nine of Boomtown’s 27 main stages. Keep an eye on the newsletter and follow Twitter, Facebook & Instagram to keep up to date with our going ons over the coming weeks.

All nine unique district line-ups, along with four mega stage line-ups will be released every Tuesday and Friday from the 13th February, with an eye watering amount of acts still to be announced…

WHAT THE PRESS SAID 2017:

The Independent –  Just bear in mind once you go to this festival, everything else will feel a bit tame…

DJ Magazine – The incredible design conjures everything from medieval times to dystopian futures…

Songlines –  ‘an adventure into the imagination’ … a veritable city with its own internal mythology of explorers, revolutions and alien contact. An impressly huge line up is spread across 12 districts, each with its own personality and multiple stages.

Green Parent Magazine – The kids area Kidztown in Boomtown is brilliant! So creative and so much fun for kids of all ages!  …  A city of wonderment, theatre, escapism and community with breathtaking and intricate stages and streets waiting to be discovered.

Time Out Magazine – Eccentric and mind bending installations combine to create a city (…) where you never know exactly what you might stumble into.

Netmums – Boomtown is a fantastic festival for kids. The Kidztown district offers circus skills, costume making and face painting.  There’s also the Sandcastle Stage with family friendly shows and entertainment especially for the kids such as discos and reggae aerobics.

Metro.com – More virtual reality than festival, this story-driven experience manages to pull off top musical fare … but that’s just the beginning of your journey.

Notion Magazine – Boomtown isn’t just tents and stages clumsily plopped down in the countryside, but a spectacular sensory experience that pays homage to all art forms. It’s a sprawling pop-up metropolis comprised of cleverly repurposed shipping containers, boats, caravans… you name it and they’ve done something seriously cool with it.
